WASHINGTON-   President Trump has signed HR 3218, Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2017. Rep. Cook was a co-sponsor of the legislation, which includes language from his Veterans Education Equity Act.

Cook introduced the Veterans Education Equity Act in January 2017 to fix a problem in Post-9/11 GI Bill housing payments for student veterans, which prevented some veterans from receiving a fair housing payment.

WASHINGTON-   Rep. Paul Cook (R-Apple Valley) voted for S. 114, the VA Choice and Quality Employment Act of 2017. The bill passed overwhelmingly in the House, and the Senate previously passed this bill in May.

WASHINGTON-   Rep. Paul Cook (R-Apple Valley) voted today for HR 3218, Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2017. The bill passed the House unanimously. Rep. Cook was a co-sponsor of the legislation, which includes language from his original bill.

Cook’s original bill, the Veterans Education Equity Act, was introduced in January 2017. It fixes a problem in the way the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) determines Post-9/11 GI Bill housing payments for student veterans, which prevents some veterans from receiving a fair housing payment.

The bill passed the House of Representatives overwhelmingly in February and passed the Senate on unanimous consent in March. Rep. Cook had reintroduced this bipartisan bill earlier this year.

WASHINGTON- Rep. Paul Cook (R-Apple Valley) announced the US Senate has passed his bill, HR 244, the Hire Vets Act of 2017. The bill already passed the House of Representatives overwhelmingly in February. Rep. Cook had reintroduced this bipartisan bill earlier this year. It was introduced last Congress and passed the House with unanimous support, but was unable to pass the Senate before the end of the year. The bill now heads back to the House for final passage as the Senate made minor technical changes to it.

WASHINGTON – Rep. Paul Cook (R-Apple Valley) reintroduced HR 544, the Private Corrado Piccoli Purple Heart Preservation Act.

The bill extends protections of original Purple Heart medals that the government presented to a wounded service member or the service member’s family.  Currently, second hand dealers sell lost or discarded Purple Hearts for hundreds or even thousands of dollars of profit with little reverence for the personal sacrifice paid by a member of the armed forces.
