Capitol Update

Join me on September 12 (THIS SATURDAY) for  ‘Salute to Women!"
Congressman Cook is pleased to announce that he will host “Salute to Women: Young Leaders and Mentors” on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 10:00AM. The event will be held at the Apple Valley Town Conference Center, located at 14955 Dale Evans Parkway, Apple Valley, CA 92307. The ceremony is open to the public and there is no cost to attend.

Marking the third consecutive year Congressman Cook has hosted an event to honor women from the district; this year’s theme focuses on young leaders who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in their respective communities. In addition, several women will be recognized for their work with organizations that serve the youth.

Cook said, “I’ve heard countless stories about young women in my district who are actively engaged in improving and moving their communities forward. These ladies are driven by a passion to serve others, and I think “Salute to Women” is a great opportunity to thank them for their efforts.”

Iran Deal Update From Congressman Cook

This week, the House will consider a resolution of disapproval on the Iran nuclear deal. This vote will have an immense impact on our national security as well as the security of our friends and allies around the world.

For weeks, I've reviewed the deal, consulted with our military leadership, and heard from our allies. Since its inception, Iran has been the world's leading sponsor of terrorism and has never given any indication that it's willing to change its behavior. I don't trust Iran to comply with this deal and refuse to reward them with over a hundred billion dollars in sanctions relief that they can use to support terror. I'm going to join a bipartisan majority of Congress in opposing this bad deal.
I urge my colleagues to join me in rejecting this bad deal, tightening the sanctions regime on Iran, and sending the administration back to the negotiating table to get a better deal.

In case you missed it, I wrote an editorial for the Press Enterprise laying out my reasons for opposing this deal. You can read it by clicking here.

Every Kid in a Park Program Has Been Launched!

Starting on September 1, fourth graders nationwide can visit the new Every Kid in a Park website to obtain a pass that provides free access to students and their families to all federally managed lands and waters – including national forests, grasslands, wildlife refuges and waters. The pass is valid for the 2015-2016 school year and grants free entry for fourth graders and three accompanying adults (or an entire car for drive-in parks) at more than 2,000 federally-managed sites.

Fourth graders can log onto the website at www.everykidinapark.gov and complete a fun educational activity in order to obtain and print their pass. Students can also trade in their paper pass for an official access card at participating federal sites nationwide.

Educators and community leaders can access educational activities, field trip options, and the ability to print passes for their classrooms. Parents visiting the new website can find additional links for more information on planning trips to nearby public lands.

Every Kid in a Park is a crucial component of a multi-pronged approach to inspire the next generation to discover all that our nation’s public lands and waters have to offer, including opportunities to be active, spend time with friends and family, and serve as living classrooms to build critical skills.
