Rep. Cook Issues Statement on Iran
WASHINGTON – Rep. Paul Cook (R- Apple Valley) issued the following statement today on President Trump's announcement that the United States was ending it's participation in the Iran Deal:
"Today's decision by President Trump to withdraw from the flawed Iran deal has been a long time coming. From day one, it was obvious that the deal lacked meaningful methods to verify Iranian compliance. The Obama Administration gave them billions of dollars in cash and sanctions relief, and in return, they continued to lie to the United States and the world about their intentions. It's long past time to reimpose sanctions, rally our allies to work together to develop a real plan to address Iranian aggression, and continue to apply pressure on Iran. Any agreement must verifiably dismantle the Iranian nuclear and missile programs as well as end its support for terrorism. I stand in strong support of working out a new deal promptly."
A member of the House Natural Resources, Armed Services, and Foreign Affairs Committees, Cook served as an infantry officer and retired after 26 years as a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps. During his time in combat, he was awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.
