Rep. Paul Cook Helps Secure Vital Local Water Grant

May 15, 2014
Press Release

WASHINGTON – Today Rep. Paul Cook (R-Apple Valley) announced that the Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority (VVWRA) has been awarded a $3,000,000 grant to fund the Southern California Desert Region Integrated Water and Economic Sustainability Plan. VVWRA has provided high-level treatment for irrigation projects and groundwater recharge in Southern California’s Victor Valley region.

This grant will fund two additional sub-regional plants that provide 4,480 acre-feet of recycled water per year with a build out capacity up to 17,920 acre-feet per year. The recycled water resulting from these two plants will replace groundwater and water imported through the State Water Project from the Bay-Delta.

Said Cook, “Getting water to Southern California and keeping it here remains a top priority. This grant will expand water treatment for irrigation projects and boost groundwater recharg. I’m glad to have been able to help secure this vital grant.”

A member of the House Armed Services, Veterans' Affairs, and Foreign Affairs Committees, Cook is a former educator who served as an infantry officer and retired as a Colonel after 26 years in the US Marine Corps. He was awarded the Bronze Star medal with valor device and two Purple Hearts for actions in combat.
