WASHINGTON- Rep. Paul Cook (R-Apple Valley) voted today for HR 1698, the Iran Ballistic Missiles and International Sanctions Enforcement Act. This bill, which expands sanctions against Iran for its illicit ballistic missile program, passed the House of Representatives overwhelmingly.
H.R. 1698 requires the President to impose sanctions on foreign persons and entities involved with Iran’s ballistic missile program and those who provide or receive conventional weapons from Iran.

Helium is an essential element used in MRIs, air-to-missile guidance systems, and semiconductors. As such, a steady supply of helium is critical for the medical, defense, and energy industries. The United States is currently the world’s largest supplier of helium. The next largest producers are Qatar, Algeria, and Russia.

This year’s bill takes several vital steps to strengthen the readiness of our military. It increases the size of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Army Guard and Reserve, Naval and Air Reserve, and Air Guard. The bill also provides the largest pay increase to the military in eight years. In addition, it also makes up for critical maintenance shortfalls and begins significant acquisition reforms.

H.R. 479 requires the Secretary of State to determine whether the government of North Korea meets the criteria of a state sponsor of terrorism. It requires the Secretary to issue a report within 90 days of enactment.
Today, the House Foreign Affairs Committee held a hearing on Russian disinformation efforts and their attempts at undermining democratic institutions across Europe. The Committee heard from an expert panel of witnesses including the former President of Estonia, Toomas Hendrik Ilves.
